About the question bank
Being straight about what these questions are — and what they are not — matters more than making the bank sound bigger than it is.
Where the questions come from
ZanWise uses the community-maintained OpenSAT question bank, whose licence permits this use. We import a pinned snapshot rather than calling their API live, so the content you practise on does not change underneath you mid-attempt.
What we changed on import
Re-minted every question id
The source ids repeat — only 468 of 1,031 Math ids are unique — so each question gets a stable id derived from its own content.
Removed duplicates
175 rows were exact content duplicates of another row and would otherwise have shown up twice in the same drill.
Held back 8 questions that need a missing figure
They refer to a figure, graph or diagram the source never shipped. Rather than show a question that cannot be answered, we never serve them.
Checked every question by hand
Each of the 2,216 questions that passed the import checks was then worked through one at a time — the maths solved, the Reading and Writing keys verified. 876 were withheld for having several defensible answers, false premises, invented quotations or plain wrong facts; 96 keys were corrected and 41 explanations rewritten rather than discarded. With the 83 rejected at import, 959 of the source bank is never served.
Rebuilt the full-length tests so no question repeats
The source's own 114 tests reused the same questions so heavily that any two shared about a third, and some questions sat in every one. They were replaced with 6 tests built from the bank, as many as its algebra questions allow, with no question in two of them and the official mix of topics in every module.
Shuffled the answer choices
In the raw bank, A is the correct answer three times more often than D. Choices are reordered per attempt so that pattern cannot be gamed.
Known gaps
These are properties of the source data, not choices we made. They are listed here so you can plan around them.
No figure-based questions
Not coveredThe source bank contains no images at all, so its questions built on graphs, tables and scatterplots are absent. The ZanWise original tests include them.
No student-produced responses
Not coveredEvery question in the source bank is multiple choice, while roughly a quarter of real Digital SAT Math asks you to type an answer. The ZanWise original tests include typed answers.
Only 6 practice tests from this bank
Not coveredThe bank's algebra questions run out after 6 full tests, so that is how many it makes, and none of them shares a question with another. Drills and adaptive tests draw on the same bank, so a question you met there can come up again in a test.
Coarse difficulty labels
Not coveredItems are tagged easy, medium or hard rather than calibrated against how real students performed on them.
On scores
Scaled scores here are estimates from a published-style conversion curve. The College Board equates every real form separately and does not publish the operational curve, so treat a ZanWise score as a range, not a prediction. ZanWise is not affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board; SAT is their registered trademark.
